Beaba Baby Cook Review & The Twins First Solids.

I have decided to do more product reviews on my blog. Some of them will be gifts I received from companies but all of them will only be products I truly use for myself.

My first review is for the BEABA BABYCOOK, I was lucky enough to receive it as a gift for my twins. My twins are turning 6 months old (already! sad face...) next week and I have not yet started to give them solids. Their first time was today and I have written about it at the end of the page.

In my mother's group there is another twin mum and she gave me a few tips regarding solids. She prepared a lot of purees the month before starting solids and froze them. I decided to do the same and I have started using my BEABA BABYCOOK for the past weeks freezing purees before starting solids.

I have already made some organic sweet potatoes, organic carrot and organic pumpkin purees. My freezer is filling up very fast! I will be making/freezing apples, pears and greens next.

The BEABA BABYCOOK - I have the Babycook Duo - makes up to 4.7 cups of food in a sleek, patented countertop appliance that steam cooks, blends and reheats all-in-one, in 15 minutes or less.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT:
  • Very quick. Only takes 15 minutes to steam a full basket.
  • Makes smooth or chunky purees very easily.
  • Can reheat and defrost (I have yet to do it) quickly without using the microwave.
  • Limited washing up to do as you have less dirty dishes and you can put the dirty bowl in the dishwasher.
  • Very easy to use and very easy transition from steam to blend.
  • Timer alert tells you when the steaming process is finished.
  • Compact - does not take much room on countertop or in a cupboard.
  • Great for mums wanting to make their own baby food.
  • Would make a great baby shower/ birth gift.
You can buy it here in Australia.

The Twins First Solids Experience

As easy as it is to make purees for my twins actually feeding the purees to them is a lot harder! We tried for the first time today to eat carrot puree and it wasn't a hit. I am a little bit disappointed I was hoping they would love the stuff and ask for some more! I hope they will like their vegetables!! I guess it was only their first time and it was all new.

James was first and did not know what to do with the liquid carrot puree. He was spitting it all out and much more ended on his face and down his bib than in his mouth!! He looked very serious about the whole process until he cried for his bottle.

Eloise took a bit more in- she actually ate a little bit but made some terrible facial expressions as seen on the pictures above (2nd row). I don't think she liked it!! But I will persevere.

This weekend I will be trying pumpkin or sweet potato puree and mix it with their milk instead of boiled water.

I will post an article in the next few months about our experience with solids. But let me know if you have any questions regarding the Beaba Babycook or tips for introducing solids to babies!

Update// My twins are 6 months old today and so we have been doing solids for about 10 days and they are improving. James is a lot more interested than Eloise although he makes bubbles with the puree sometimes!! They also still have their tongue reflex. I got told it will go away as they learn to swallow the puree so I have to keep going. I only do 1 meal a day at this point.

So far they have had carrots (still not a fan), sweet potatoe (they enjoyed it), banana & avocado (James loved that one!). I have bought organic apples, pumpkin and papaya to do next! I will also try the carrot mixed with apple.
Once I have done most veggies and they are better at swallowing I will introduce more foods.
