Studying Health Coaching with IIN

This blog post is for everyone that has been asking about studying with IIN, the nutrition and health coach course I did last year with Institute of Integrative Nutrition.

My journey with IIN started a year before signing up to their IIN health coach program. I found the health coach course online a few months before getting married but was not ready to sign up. I was also a little scared and busy with other things!

Fast forward a year later and I had started my blog, my Instagram account and had met lots of friends with similar interest in the health and wellness industry. The IIN health coach program came up again and this time I was ready to sign up! I am so glad I finally "took the jump" but also waited until I felt 100% comfortable with signing up. So read below if you too fill the pull to study nutrition or are interested in the IIN Health Coach Course and my journey!

// What I liked about the IIN course:

When I started the Health Coach course I was like a 6 year old going to school for the first time! I bought myself a new shiny notebook and pen and was ready to learn! I was so excited! The first part of the course was focused on explaining the role of primary and secondary foods. Each week we studied a new diet theory. I liked the fact that it would let us make our own opinion of each diet and even recommend trying them for a week for ourselves. I have gained great knowledge in foods and what works for my body as a result.

The second half of the year was a little bit more business and marketing orientated to help us set up a health coaching business and about studying wellness trends and theories. I have gained great tips from it even though I have studied a bachelor of Business & Marketing.

Each Tuesday (Monday in America), a new module will go live on the app from the course. Each module is broken down in smaller power points and videos. If sometimes I did not have time to study everything or not at all I could catch up later on. I sometimes studied the content of 3 weeks in one weekend. I found the workload to be easily manageable along side a full time job, social activities, my blog and my partner!

I liked this course as it did not involve having to go to university and study chemistry and other hard scientific subjects for 4 years! The cost of the course is also much smaller than a full on nutrition degree and the fact it is all online is a great benefit too.

The health coach course is all online but the community of students and past students is really big around the world and in Australia. As I said 6 other Perth girls were studying with IIN at the same time as me! That was great. We caught up once a month in healthy cafes talking about the lectures, helping each other with exercises and building friendships. Four of us are now bloggers/health coaches and 2 have opened a little business selling healthy breakfast bowls at farmers markets.

At the end of the course you don't have to be a health coach but you can use the knowledge in other ways like my friends above. I also think studying with IIN is great just for myself and my upcoming family.

// Cons of the course:

Some people might be disappointed that the course content is much lighter than a nutrition degree but in one year you cannot learn what you do in 4 years or more! There isn't any biology of chemistry.

Health coaching is also not very common and people are not sure of what it entails and might have a negative opinion of it due to the sometime negative image depicted in the media.
